Meet Charmaine Moses
The educator and vision behind The Speaking Academy.
An international educator, IELTS specialist, curriculum developer and learning coach who brings more than 20 years of knowledge—and genuine human care—to every learner's voice.

The story behind the academy
Every learner has a voice worth developing—and a future worth preparing for.
Hello, I'm Charmaine Moses—and I am delighted to welcome you to The Speaking Academy. I am an international English educator, IELTS specialist, curriculum developer, learning coach and founder of The Speaking Academy. For more than 20 years, I have helped learners across ages, cultures and professional backgrounds turn English into a practical tool for education, confidence and opportunity.
My wider teaching experience includes learners aged 4 to 21, international university pathways, adult learning and corporate communication. The academy's Young Learners programme welcomes children aged 3-12. I have taught more than 4,000 students across South Africa and China—over 3,000 in South Africa and more than 1,000 in China. I currently teach at an international Canadian-curriculum school in China and, during the past three years, have guided more than 300 Chinese Grade 12 and IELTS learners. Student IELTS results typically range from band 6.5 to 8.0.
My work has also included capstone project supervision, academic writing, public speaking, teacher mentoring, literacy initiatives and major educational projects for organisations including World Vision International and CAST. This broad perspective allows me to connect language learning with the real demands of school, university and professional life.
I teach British, American and Canadian English, but my deeper focus is always the learner. Lessons are carefully structured around current ability, purpose, pace and personality. Whether we are strengthening early foundations, preparing for IELTS, shaping a capstone presentation or refining leadership communication, my goal is the same: capable, independent and confident English use.
